Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek

City of Champions
The Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program is determined to eliminate health disparities for Black men. We can think of no better place to continue our work than Inglewood, the hometown of our founder, Dr. Releford.
For us, Inglewood is more than buildings and streets. It’s where our culture shines bright. People here fight for justice, celebrate Martin Luther King Day, and create spaces where everyone feels welcome. Everyone knows each other and looks out for one another. It’s a place that shows us we’re strong, talented, and connected, and that makes us proud to call it home.
Our Impact Resonates
We’ve already made history by screening over 30,000 Black men for diabetes and high blood pressure across the country. To date, it has been the largest effort of its kind to address healthcare disparities among Black communities.
But, the work isn’t anywhere close to being done. Help us do more.
How We Work
Engage
We recruit and train Black barbers to act as the trusted messengers of their communities and offer their clients the chance to be privately screened by a physician in a familiar and comfortable space.
Screen
We recruit and deploy Black healthcare professionals to barbershop events, where they educate and screen clients seeking health assessments and next-step guidance.
refer
We direct screened patients to the closest healthcare provider based on physician guidance and ensure the facility accepts their insurance or helps them enroll in Medicare/Medicaid.
Do Something. Get Involved
Let’s create generational health. We’ve got work to do and room at the table for everyone to get involved.
